Gonna challenge myself

I am going to try and post at least 15 times this month. I should be able to do it. :)

Just like a female.....

I have changed my mind about not changing the URL for this blog. :-)

I decided that the short time of discomfort of changing all the links for my new blog will be worth it in the end.

I feel that this name and thus a new URL is more fitting to myself and helps that when you do a search for my blog people do not get a bunch of porn or even soft-porn sites.  Not the image I want to portray, not only for myself but for all the women out there that take gun ownership and handling seriously.

Here is the link to my new blog address:  http://countryteaandbullets.blogspot.com/

I have exported/imported all the posts from here to the new blog, so soon this one will be just a memory. :-)

Thanks,

At the range today

Got another chance to go to the range this week. Oldest daughter wanted to do something today, but something that didn't cost alot. So I suggested that her and her boyfriend come out to the range for some practice, then to the house for a cookout. So we had plans set!

The range was nice. I am not sure if it was just a normal weekday or if the threat of rain kept people away, but the range was almost empty. Oldest daughter's boyfriend had never been to the range before, so gave some basics to him. He is familiar with rifles and shotguns, but not so much with handguns.

He was able to shoot both Glocks and my XDm. He said it was fun, so I have a feeling he will be coming out again soon.

My groupings are needing work, but that is just part of the process. That and my DH says I am too hard on myself when it comes to my shooting. LOL

A great first day of Spring Break!

It started kind of rough since I had to run to the big box store to replace my clothesline since our dryer decided to stop blowing hot air last night!  I am not worried, DH is very handy and will figure out what needs to be replaced, but until then we will be using the clothesline.

After getting the clothes out on the line I got my range gear together and off I went to meet up with my friend A Girl and Her Gun!  It was SO nice to get out to a range for some "girl" time!  Don't get me wrong, I love my hubby and my usual range, but I am usually one of the few ladies there.

Today we each took a lane and went to work on our groupings.  I really liked watching my friend use a deck of cards to improve her shooting.  I think I need to pick up a cheap deck of cards before my next trip to the range. ;-)

After spending our brass, we went down the road for some lunch and chatting.  It was really nice to get to know her away from what I read online.  Don't get me wrong, I love her writing and all the wonderful information she has shared with us all, but it is nothing compared to meeting her in person.

We chatted about how females, for the most part, are raised to "be good," to "not fight," and sometimes to even "give in" so as to lessen the damage to ourselves if we are attacked.  (Thankfully I was raised to always fight back and to not give in without a fight.  Thanks Mom!)  I have never understood what it is considered "proper" to give in to the criminals.

We talked and talked and just had a great time.  I hope we will be able to get together again soon.

Name change...

Same URL, since that is too much of a pain to change at this point, but I felt this is a better name for me. :-)

Another post will come later.  I had a great time meeting up with a friend and want to blog about it, but am time restricted at the moment. :-)

Spring Break starts today!

I hope to get to the range at least a couple times next week!

A little over a month until our training down in Culpeper and then I have to wait until September for the Cornered Cat training!

My new baby

This little girl is named Kimber.  She is the one from our recent litter that I decided to keep.  That is her momma next to her.  They were enjoying themselves in the open window yesterday evening.

Holsters.....

I sometimes feel that bringing up even the word holsters can open a can of worms!

Everyone has their favorite type and brand.  Which is great because it gives us all options, but can be confusing and expensive when you try and find the "one" for you!

I have a total of three holsters.  The paddle one that came with my gun, my Remora, and one from Old Faithful Holsters.

I will admit that I have been relying on my remora and have not "broken in" my old faithful.  I need to since I am going to my first training course in May and then another in September.  Both of those courses will need me to have a holster that is securely attached to my belt.  I also need to look into some extra mag holders.

Now back to how I started this post...my husband is a die-hard Galco fan and wants me to order one from there.  I am no opposed to a new holster, but I am trying to explain to him that I would like a chance to break in my other one before I spend money on a Galco that could very well go towards more ammo or extra magazines.

What are your thoughts on holsters?  I welcome any and all comments and suggestions!

A Day Out Shooting

Got to go out to a person's property today to shoot.  Ranges are nice, but there is nothing like the freedom of open fields:

Plus, DH bought youngest son his own rifle.  He is a very happy camper!

Busy week!

I have not had much time to sit and think, much less write out a blog post. LOL

I do have to say that reading this article has got me in a very irritable mood!

Miller:  D.C.'s crime solution:  Be a victim

I have been reading Emily Miller's articles about what she has had to go through to own a gun in the District with great interest.  I am just an hour outside of D.C. and have to make sure I never cross over into D.C. when going anywhere since that would be illegal.

The fact that the District's deputy mayor for public safety and justice would say that you should just give in to a criminal is mind boggling!  How dare he say that I should just allow myself to be victimized!  I understand that possessions are not worth my life, but I will be darned if I will allow some low-life scumbag to take my hard earn possessions without some kind of resistance!

I am so tired of the criminal becoming the victim in this country.  To borrow a phrase from our friend Weer'd World:

"Carry Your Damn Guns!"

New T-shirt

So... I got this t-shirt a couple weeks ago and decided to wear it to the range today. :-)

I had several compliments on it, which is to be expected at the range.  The fun was the looks I got when I wore it to the grocery store later! LOL  You would have thought I was wearing a shirt with a bunch of cuss words on it.  I would assume it was the shirt, since my hair was clean and neat and my make up was minimal....but one never knows for sure. he he he

What does the Virginia Tech shooting have to do with VA"s one gun a month law?

Absolutely nothing...but that is not what the anti-gunners want people to believe.  I just read this article online about "VA Tech families to talk with Gov. McDonnell on one-gun-a-month repeal," and I have to wonder when the emotional blackmail will ever end!!!

Saturday, February 18, 2012

But, but.... It's supposed to be safe there.....

D.C. has some of the strongest gun control laws in the nation, so it should be safe right?

WRONG!  Especially if a guy has a knife!

Man charged in fatal D.C. stabbing

Would the Anti's light a candle for this guy?

Other Blogs

Have you ever read a blog that reminded you of a cartoon you had seen online, so then you had to go searching for it?  Yeah, that was me just now. LOL

I was reading Weer'd World's latest post and I had to go search for this cartoon:

Yes, one is too many....but if I had to choose between one (1) and seven (7), I know what I would choose!

You will never see this on an anti-gun's site....

**Disclaimer:  I would like to give credit for this photo, but do not remember where I got it.  I did not create it and do not take credit for it.**

Did she get a knife?

For me? No, but my two youngest each got one. LOL

I am still looking at what type I want, so I just let them each get one.  Now, I might borrow them from time to time until I choose mine though. LOL

My daughter also got a small rubber band gun, so it was a good day for them. :-)

I want a knife.

There, I said it.  I want a nice concealable one.  I am not sure exactly what type I want, but I plan to start looking into them.  I will also use my time at the gun show to see what is available there. :-)

Okay... that is all for now.  Carry on......

Any plans for tomorrow?

Why, yes I do have plans.

I will be here tomorrow.

I will let you all know if I get anything good. :-)

What's been going on???

I haven't posted in a few days. :-(  It was not my intention to be away for a bit, but I have started a couple of posts, but never got back to them.

I have so many different things going on in my head, but can not seem to get them down on the computer screen the way I feel they should be to post. (Does that ever happen to you?)

I am currently sitting here waiting for the snow that caused schools to be closed, but has yet to show up. LOL  I am using the time to get some laundry done, work on cleaning out the kitten's room before they are completely mobile, and working on blog posts.  (Still getting writer's block, but am posting something anyways. LOL)

I got an award.

I was very surprised to see this comment from The Gun Diva saying that she picked me to receive the above blog bling. :-)  Below is the rules of the bling:

1. Copy and paste the award on our blog.
2. Link back to the blogger who gave us the award
3. Pick our five favorite blogs with less than 200 followers, and leave a comment on their blog to let them know they have received the award.
4. Hope that the five blogs chosen will keep spreading the love and pass it on to five more blogs.

Now I had hoped to link to five lady shooter blogs, but since there are not many out there and some have already been awarded, I am going to send five of my favorites.

Sidearm Wisdom

Subject: Sidearm wisdom

"The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win and cheat if necessary."

Don't forget, incoming fire has the right of way."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it, cause it's going to be empty."

"If you're not shootin', you should be loadin'.. If you're not loadin', you should be movin', if you're not movin', someone's gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick."

"When you reload in low light encounters, don't put your flashlight in your back pocket.. If you light yourself up, you'll look like an angel or the tooth fairy... and you're gonna be one of 'em pretty soon."

"Do something. It may be wrong, but do something."

"Shoot what's available, as long as it's available, until something else becomes available."

"If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous.  If you have a gun, what in the hell do you have to be paranoid for."

"Don't shoot fast, unless you also shoot good."

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work,  but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is  pretty much the universal language."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems.. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"You cannot save the planet but you may be able to save yourself and your family."

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense.  The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'

Beware of the man who only has one gun, because he probably knows how to use it very well.

'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G.. K. Chesterton

A people that values its privileges above its principles will soon lose both.

Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.."  - Thomas Jefferson

Here is a picture of the kittens. I have given them their "temporary" names until their forever homes choose them. Yes, there is a theme. LOL (Bonus points for whoever can guess the link to the tuxedo colored one!)

**Forgive the messed up name.  It was late and that one was supposed to be Glock, not the other name that was there. LOL

I love this story

The "two wolves" or "The wolves within"

A Cherokee Legend

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Here is the same story, but it is called "Grandfather Tells" which is also known as "The Wolves Within"

An old Grandfather said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice, "Let me tell you a story.

I too, at times, have felt a great hate for those that have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they do.

But hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times." He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, and in the right way.

But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing.

Sometimes, it is hard to live with these two wolves inside me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."

The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"

The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one I feed."

It was such a fun morning!!!

I got to finally "meet" my friend from A Girl and Her Gun in person!  She is as nice in person as she is online!

We got to meet up this morning since I did not have to be at school today.  Since weekends are always so busy, it's nice to get out during the week.  Plus, ranges are a bit less crowded during the week.

My friend was very nice and we had so much fun shooting.  So much that we are already talking about doing it again. Maybe we can even have lunch after next time!

She got a chance to shoot some different guns and I got a chance to experience a new range.  I really liked it and it is not that far from my house.  Farther than my trusty outdoor one, but easier to get to than the one in Centreville!

Wanted to post earlier, but after getting home, I needed to run a couple errands to get ready for back to work tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Blue Ridge Arsenal

Sweetie and I went to Blue Ridge Arsenal yesterday.  It was nice to experience an indoor range, since the only range I had been to was the outdoor one at Clark Brothers.

To say it was a different experience would be an understatement!  It was nice not having to deal with the bad weather of winter in Northern Virginia, but I will admit that I miss the interactions with the others that I get from my outdoor range.  I guess because the outdoor range has cease fires for people to go and change targets and while that is going on you get to chat with the others there.  Since the indoor range has a very nifty little level that brings your target to you, there is really no need for cease fires and thus less opportunities for chatting with your range neighbors.

The fees for non-members at Blue Ridge are $20.00 per lane/per hour and $10.00 for each additional person for that lane. (max of 4 to a lane)  You do not have to purchase your ammo there, nor do you have to buy their targets.  So for $30.00, DH and I shot for an hour.  Not bad overall, but it does limits your time.

All in all I liked Blue Ridge, but I will admit that I am still partial to my "home" range at Clark Brothers.

Excitement, excitement

Tomorrow (Sunday) I am going to my first indoor range!  DH and I are going to Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, Virginia.

Then Tuesday I am going to another indoor range because I get to meet A Girl and Her Gun in person!  YEAH ME! LOL

I plan to blog about both in the future. :-)

Gun Collector

This was sent to me from my dear husband:

Gun Collector

You may have heard on the news about a southern California man put under 72-hour psychiatric observation when it was found he owned 100 guns and allegedly had (by rough estimate) 100,000 rounds of ammunition stored in his home. The house also featured a secret escape tunnel.
My favorite quote from the dimwit television reporter: "Wow! He has about a quarter million machine gun bullets." The headline referred to it as a "massive weapons cache".
By southern California standards someone owning 100,000 rounds would be called "mentally unstable". Just imagine if he lived elsewhere:
In Arizona, he'd be called "an avid gun collector".
In Texas, he'd be called "a novice gun collector".
In Utah, he'd be called "moderately well prepared", but they'd probably reserve judgment until they made sure that he had a corresponding quantity of stored food.
In Montana, he'd be called "The neighborhood 'Go-To' guy".
In Idaho, he'd be called "a likely gubernatorial candidate".
In Wyoming, he'd be called "an eligible bachelor".

And, in South Carolina, he’d be called "a deer hunting buddy".

This is troubling

I am not the biggest fan of Huffington Post's reporting, but this article has me concerned.

NYPD Testing Long-Distance Gun Detection Device

It appears to be some type of very low level radiation that will show a "disruption" in your body heat signature if you are carrying a concealed weapon.  I already feel violated just reading this article!

All the anti's will say that this will be great to get illegal guns off the streets, but what about those of us that have taken the steps to be able to conceal carry?

I conceal carry for a reason, and that is I DO NOT WANT anyone to know I am carrying!!!

This is dangerous and needs to be heard!

Quote of the Day

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest."
-- Mahatma Gandhi

Went to the range yesterday.

Yes, got home from work and DH was home and had the bags ready.  So...off we went!

I was shooting a bit low, but still good groupings, so I am not going to complain (too much).  That is a bit of an inside joke with my sweetie, since he says I am too hard on myself with my shooting. :-)

At the end of our time at the range, I got to thinking about the hollow points that I had just put back into my carry gun.  I was wondering if they felt any different when they are shot, compared to FMJ rounds......so, I asked sweetie.  He said "a little, go ahead and shoot what you have and see."  Now, being a bit on the frugal side, I was hesitant to shoot the "pricier" ammo.  He said to go ahead, we need to buy more anyways, so I shot.

OH MY GOODNESS...... he did not tell me that flames basically come out the end of the gun when you shoot that ammo!  It was really cool, with just a little more kick than FMJ ammo.

I think it was a really good thing to see how that ammo shot, so that I am not taken by surprised if I ever have to use it in a real life situation.

Missed going to the range today..

But it was just too cold!

We have hardly missed a weekend in months, but we have decided that if it is less than 40 degrees outside, we are staying home!

The range we go to is outdoors and is really nice, but oh my goodness it can get cold out there sometimes!

We are hoping that it is warmer tomorrow.  Since it's a holiday, DH and I both have off, so a trip to the range would be nice. (just when did a trip to the range qualify as a date??)  I want to start practicing some with both eyes open.  I know that is something I need to work on.

I am one!

I am an evil “pro gun extremist” as far as some anti-gun extremist are concerned.  But guess what, I am proud of it.  I am proud of the fact that I have gthe ability to protect myself and others if there happens to be an opportunity to do so.

I have read on the blog-sphere that some in the anti-gun crowd feel that we should “just let them rob you and no on will get hurt.”  How can anyone with even a thimble full of common sense believe that a person can be robber, either at gun point or not and NOT be harmed?  Maybe not physically, but I can guarantee they will be harmed emotionally!  I can not guarantee that the criminal that is willing to threaten my life to steal my possessions will be satified with leaving me without injury, there have been many cases of people that “complied” with a mugger and still got pistol whipped.

Have I always been this way?  No, I have not.  I probably don’t look like a “pro gun extremist” either, though I am not sure what one is supposed to look like.  I am sure there are some of the anti’s out there that could help me with that bit of info, but I don’t feel like asking. LOL  I am a bit of a homebody, I like to cook, can, sew, read, and being a mom and grandma.  I work full time and go to school full time.  I do have one tattoo, does that give me “the look?”  I am probably the least likely person that people would think is “packing heat” when I am at the grocery store, but that is the way I like it.

So, to all those out there that feel that I should not have right to own the means to protect myself, I say “sorry, but I am going to anyways!”

Candles against VIOLENCE

and showing what my husband and I do to take responsibility for our OWN safety.  I will not be a victim if I can help it!

"Home: May our home be warm and our friends be many."

I selected the candle for this "vigil," my husband said forget the candle, he wanted a true statement so he reloaded almost 1000 rounds and that is his symbol for ending violence.

Part of Weer'd Worlds blog campaign.

Saturday, January 7, 2012

A candle will be lit to end VIOLENCE.

So, tomorrow the Brady Gun control group is sponsoring a candlelight vigil to "end gun violence."  That seems all nice, but why don't they say to end ALL violence?  Is violence okay if it's with a knife or poison?  (yes, that is sarcasm there)

The nice guy over at Weer'd World is promoting all of us responsible gun owners to stage our own version of a candlelight vigil against VIOLENCE of all kinds!

Post a picture on January 8th showing a candle and your carry item(s).

I have not made my picture yet, but I will before tomorrow.

It will be weird tomorrow!

I go back to work tomorrow.  It was a nice 13 day break, but now I have to get used to NOT carrying every where I go.

Yes, as you have probably deducted from my above statement, I work at a place where I am not allowed to conceal carry. I will just have to get used to it again until the spring break. LOL
